2013-03-26 • Control of E-coli

2013-03-14 to 28 • Taj Food Festival in Mumbai

The association hosted a food festival at the Taj Hotel in Mumbai in late March.  Two Atlantic Canadian companies attended and food products from another eight companies were shipped to the event.  It is believed that the potential market in India for our products is very large. 


2013-02-26 and 27 • 10th Atlantic Conference on the Food Industry

Held at the Best Western Plus hotel in Dartmouth February 26 and 27.  Very well received due largely to an excellent line-up of spearkers that included:

2012-10-26 to 29 • Fresh Summit in Anaheim, California


The association again hosted the Atlantic Canada Pavilion at the Fresh Summit in Anaheim October 26-29.  The show draws buyers from around the world for products that are typically sold along the grocery aisles of retailers.  The show had 850 booths and several thousand buyers attended.  Six companies were in the Atlantic Canada pavilion.  A chef's station helped to draw good numbers to the pavilion and the association plans to host a pavilion at next year's show in New Orleans.



2012-09-26 to 28 • Annapoorna World of India show

The association had funding available whereby Atlantic Canadian companies could ship shelf-stable (not frozen) foods to be displayed in the Canada pavillion at the Annapoorna World of India Show in Mumbai, September 26 to 28.  


2012-09-24 • 16th Americas Food & Beverage Show in Miami


Atlantic Canada pavilion hosted by the association at the 16th Americas Food & Beverage Show in Miami Beach.  15 companies, excellent traffic and sales.  Attracted a few thousand buyers from Latin America and the southern US.  With matchmaker-arranged interviews with selected buyers from Brazil, Panama and Costa Rica. Cruise line seminar, Atlantic Canada buyers reception and student outreach included.  2 companies took advantage of a demo stage set-up. Excellent location at the entrance to the show. Booked again for 2013.   



2012-09-17 to 19 • HACCP and Listeria Control Workshop in Baddeck

Three day workshop on HACCP and Listeria control held September 17 to 19 in Baddeck Nova Scotia.  With instructors Ebo Budu-Amoako and Jim Landrigan from BIO Food Tech.  12 participants. Very well received.

2012-01-23 to 25 • HACCP & Listeria Control Workshop in Moncton, NB


The 3-day Intensive Food Safety Course for Food Plants Managers & QA Staff will be held in Moncton, NB: Jan 23-25, 2012.
In this Course, the Participants learn the Fundamentals required to understand Food Safety Hazards. Furthermore, they learn the Essentials about preparing a HACCP Plan or how to revise, update & apply the new Regulations in their already established HACCP Plan for their Company.
95% of Food Contamination is caused by Cross-Contamination. Therefore the Workshop includes the Prevention of Listeria as it represents one of the most dangerous Bacteria in today's food processing plants.
The Experience of Hands-on Training is emphasized in the course. So, theoretical & practical Learning are well combined. At the End of the Course, the Participants will have developed - for a Food Product of their own Choice - a complete HACCP Plan in a Team environment where they apply their acquired Knowledge from the Course.

2011-11-15 • Social Media Marketing Workshop in Moncton


A Social Media Marketing Workshop was held on Nov 15, 2011 at NB Agriculture, Aquaculture & Fisheries: 381 Killam Drive in Moncton. The workshop was jointly hosted with AAFC. It was designed for producers & processors who would like to boost their business & become a major player in the modern media world. It informed about building up a company presence & prestige on the market & to expand awareness for its products, its brand & services through the use of social media like Facebook, Twitter etc.. The session showed new channels of communication, new opportunities to reach out to more clients & to stay in touch with them! The workshop opened up the opportunity for everybody to dive for a short amount of time into the potential of this new virtual world!

The association hosted again an Atlantic Canada Pavilion at the 15th Americas Food & Beverage Show which was held at the Convention Center in Miami Beach November 14 & 15, 2011. It was well received & the show provided a unique opportunity to meet buyers from the huge Southeastern US & Latin American Market.

We set up an Atlantic Canada Pavilion at the Fresh Summit in Atlanta, Georgia October 14-17, 2011: one of the largest international events dedicated to fruit, vegetables & floral. The Fresh Summit draws more than 18,500 attendees from 50 countries annually. The Pavilion was very well received this year & as a result we have already reserved space for our Pavilion at the next Fresh Summit in October 2012. 2011-09-27 to 28 • Ninth Atlantic Conference on the Food Industry


The 9th Atlantic Conference on the food industry with the topic: "Re-Inventing the Food Industry in the Region!" was held at the Holiday Inn Express on Mountain Road in Moncton: September 27-28, 2011. A selection of 8 excellent speakers made it a very successful informative event with networking opportunities. A round table discussion brought a lot of ideas to develop a "Go Forward Plan". The reception & the banquet Tuesday evening have been another highlight. 56 participants.

2011-04-03 to 04 • ApEx Show in Moncton


The ApEx is Atlantic Canada's leading Foodservice & Hospitality Trade Show which took place at the Moncton Agrena April 3 and 4, 2011. There we have hosted a ‘Select Atlantic' Pavilion with 10 different companies having showcased their unique locally produced food and beverage products or their services they provide for the region. Chef demonstrations & educational seminars rounded off the event.

2011-02-20 to 25 • Mission to South Carolina

A third mission to the Carolinas has been undertaken in the week of February 21, 2011. 7 companies representing a large range of different segments of the food & beverage industry have been on this mission to develop further markets. The focus this time has been on visiting the "food houses" (large distributors) in Hickory (NC), Newberry (NC), Myrtle Beach (SC) & Charleston (SC). Creek & Rogers have been the matchmaker for this very successful event. A mission to Georgia is being considered for 2012.

2010-10-26, 27 • 14th Americas Food & Beverage Show

The food processors association again hosted the Atlantic Canada pavillion at the 14th Americas Food & Beverage Show in Miami Beach October 26 and 27.  The event also included a session on preparing mussels and lobster and a seminar on accessing the cruise ship industry.  Much appreciated funding support was provided by ACOA and Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada.  The pavillion was made up of 20 booths at the entrance to the show and 17 companies participated.  Each met with about 1000 buyers from the huge Latin American market.  Due to the success of the venture, the association has reseverd 18 booths at the November 2011 show.

Held at the Future Inn in Moncton on October 14.  Being presented by 3 excellent instructors from Fona International.  Free seminar with presentations in English. Very interesting & sucessful event. 35 participants.

2010-06-02 • Caribbean Opportunities Seminar

Cohosted on June 2 with Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada at the Delta Beausejour in Moncton as a follow-up to earlier seminars on the Mexican and European markets.  Much valuable information gained on accessing the Caribbean market.   


2010-04-15 & 20 • Forum on Schedule I & II of Quality Management Program

Held at the Future Inn in Moncton on April 15 and the Best Western in Truro on April 20.  With speakers from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.   Very well attended at each location by 80 fish & seafood participants.



2010-04-14 to 17 • Certification Course for Retort Operators (Steam Sterilization)

Retort operator course held April 14 to 17 at the PEI Food Technology Center in Charlottetown. Hands on training with equipment at the center. 



2010-03-25 • Plant Sanitation & Listeria Control for Plant Workers

Back-to-back one-day workshops on plant sanitation and listeria control for plant workers held at the Cooke Aquaculture training room in Saint George.  With instructors from the PEI Food Tech Centre.  17 participants each day. 


2010-03-23 and 25 • European Opportunities Seminar

One day seminars cohosted with Agriculure and Agri-Food Canada held at the Delta Beausejour Hotel in Moncton and the Hilton Garden Inn at Halifax airport.  With speakers from the Canadian Consulate in Dusseldorf, Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada and compannies doing business in the European market.  Very well received by over 30 participants at each location. 



2010-03-09 to 11 • Fourth Acadian Food Processors Conference

At the Complexe Les Deux Rivières at Tracadie-Sheila.

A great event.

5th conference will be in spring 2011 at the same location. 



2010-02-10, 11 • 8th Atlantic Conference on the Food Industry

Eighth annual conference  and held at the Delta Beausejour Hotel in Moncton February 10 and 11, 2010.   Co-hosted with Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada.  Focus on natural health products and functional foods with other speakers on other topics of interest to the food incustry as well.  Very well received by 69 participants.  Included the association's annual banquet.  Nineth annual conference to be held in the spring of 2011.



2010-02-03 to 05 • Seafood HACCP & Listeria prevention course

Held in the association's training room at 500 St George Street in Moncton Feb 3 to 5, 2010.  The course was essentially all you should know about food safety and HACCP and expanded to include a strong focus on listeria prevention. The instructors were from the PEI Food Technology Center.  13 students



2010-01-17 to 22 • Mission to India

Exporatory mission to Mumbai and Cochin India.  To investigate the feasibility of a much larger return mission in the fall of 2010 or spring of 2011.  Very well received in India and the followup mission(s) are being planned.  Thanks very much to support from ACOA and the World Trade Centre in Halifax.

2009-11-09,10 • 12th Americas Food & Beverage Show

The association, with financial support from ACOA, set up an Atlantic Canada pavilion of 16 booths at the 12th Americas Food & Beverage Show at the World Trade & Convention Center in Miami Beach November 8 to 10, 2009.  Thirty-two people manned the booths from a very strong group of Atlantic Canada companies.  The event was well attended by a few thousand buyers from the trillion dollar Latin America and the southern US markets.  Much business was transacted.  As a result of the sucess of the venture, the association plans to host the pavilion again in 2010.  The event also included a very well attended reception hosted by the Canadian Consulate in Miami at the W Hotel and a visit with the buying team at Carnival Cruise Lines.  The association wishes to thank the consulate, ACOA, Agriculture Canada people, Global Convention Servicses and Chef Allain Bossé who were a big help with the event.



2009-10-14 to 16 • HACCP Workshop in St John's

Three-day FSEP HACCP workshop with participants from six island companies and instructors from the PEI Food Technology Centre held at the board room of the Department of Innovation Trade and Rural Development in St John's.  Thanks very much to the support from the department.  A second course is planned for 2010.


2009-09-14 to 18 • Second trade mission to North Carolina

Very successful second trade mission to Charlotte and Greensboro North Carolina.  19 participants representing 8 companies formed a delegation from all four Atlantic Canadian provinces and visited one to two large 'food houses' each day.  The Atlantic Canada products were very well received.  Funding support was provided by the IBDA program.  The matchmaker, Creek & Rogers Consulting did a very fine job.  The Canadain Consulate in Raleigh hosted a reception at Johnson & Wales University for the delegation and local business people on the last day of the event.  Special thanks to the consulate people for their great work on the scene.  A third mission is likely for 2010.   



2009-04-07 • Technical Seminar - Starches & Gums

At the Dramis building in Moncton.  Organized by Leslie Hall from Nealanders.  Morning session titled "Everything you should know about gums" presented by Kimio Tsuchiya from TIC Gums in Belcamp Maryland. Then an afternoon session "Everything you should know about starches" presented by Danie Neideffer from Tate & Lyle.   13 participants. 



2009-03-17 • Workshop - Control of Listeria in Food Processing Plants

Held at the Guv'nor's Inn in St John's.  Similar to workshops held in St John's on November 6 & 7, 2008.  With much appreciated support from the Newfoundland & Labrador Dept of Innovation, Trade & Rural Development.  7 participants.

Held at the Ramada plaza convention centre in Dartmouth.  Presenters were Jim Landrigan and Ebo Budu-Amoako from the PEI Food Technology Centre.  21 people attended from thirteen companies.



2008-10-23 • Problem Solving for HACCP Managers

Held at the Dramis building in Moncton with instructors Niki Petrie and Cheyl Phillips from AgraPoint.  Seven people took the course from five companies.



2008-10-15 à 17 • Third Acadian Peninsula Food Processing Conference

Held at the Complexe les Deux Rivieres in Tracadie-Sheila.  Twelve excellent speakers presented on a wide range of topics.  48 total participants.



2008-10-06 • Keeping Pathogens from Our Food

One day workshop focusing on listeria presented by Elena Connors from Impact Microbioloby.  Included an overview of other pathogens as well.  Focus on how to prevent cross contamination.  24 people attended from 14 companies.



2008-10-02 • HACCP for line supervisors

One day session held at AgraPoint in Kentville on October 2 with three participants on sustaining HACCP certification by ensuring that line supervisors understand their critical role in the maintenance and continuous improvement of the prerequisite programs and critical control points. 


2008-06-16 to 18 • FSEP Food safety course

Three-day FSEP HACCP food safety course held in Moncton with instructors from the PEI Food Technology Centre.  Six participants.


2008-06-12,13 • Enhanced Leadership Skills Course

Course on skills needed by supervisors in a food plant.  Offered because of feedback that supervisory training is needed in many plants.  Developed by the National Seafood Sector Council but applicable to any food plant.  Previously run successfully in Charlottetown and Oxford.  Instructor Jim Landrigan.  Six participants.  To be offered again in the fall and likely in Nova Scotia.



2008-05-27 • May Technical Seminar

A follow-up on successful technical seminars held before where well qualified speakers are brought in on emerging technical topics.  The topics for this event were trans fat reformulation, alternative sweeteners and allergens.  The speakers were Lesley Hall from Nealanders and Ron Arsenault and Dave McLennan from  the CFIA.  Thirteen people participated.  Plans are already underway for the next seminar.



2008-05-26 • Plant Sanitation Workshop

One-day workshop held at the Dramis building in Moncton with nine food plant people registered on plant sanitation.  With instructors from the PEI Food Technology Centre.  Excellent participation level with this size of group.


2008-05-08 • Working Smart Workshop

One day workshop on workload management, including effective use Microsoft Outlook and laptop computers.  Presenter Chuck Steeves of Priority Atlantica.  Held at the association's new office location in the Dramis building in Moncton.  Nine participants.  To be offered again on October 23  in St John's.


2008-05-06,07 • Bacterial Food Contamination Workshop

"Crash course" on bacterial food contamination and the related diseases (listeria, staph, coliforms, e-coli, salmonella, etc) and how to prevent them held at the association's new location in the Dramis building in Moncton.  Also hands-on training on sampling, taking swabs, interpreting results, meeting regulations.  Insructors Elena Connors and Sophia Kondratova from Impact Microbiology.  Also an update on how to handle the media in a food related situation by Mark Taylor from Delora Media.  Nineteen participants.  Very high ratings for the course.  To be offered again early in 2009. 


2008-04-14 • Special Food Contamination Workshop

Special offering of the second day only of the "Bacterial Food Contamination Workshop" (technical training session) held at the request of some people who could not make it for the workshop on May 6 & 7.  Eleven lobster processors attended and the focus was on listeria.  Instructor was Elena Connors from Impact Microbiology.

2007-10-25,26 • Managing the media workshop

Two-day course on managing a media crisis, such as a food recall.  Instructors Margaret Leahey and Serge Clavet.  Included mock press conferences and scrums.  Held at the Prestige Executive Centre in Moncton October 25 and 26.  Very well received by five participants.  To be offered again in the spring. 



2007-10-15 to 20 • In-Market Trade Mission to North Carolina

Trade mission to North Carolina October 15 to 19 for 6 companies.  Included visits to retailers and one-on-one matchmaking sessions in Charlotte, Asheville and Raleigh.  Verified that the North Carolina market has great potential for Altantic Canada food products.  Supported by IBDA funding.  To be held again in 2008 with a larger group of companies. 



2007-10-10 to 12 • 2nd Acadian Peninsula Food Processing Conference

Held at the Future Inns in Moncton with 27 participants.  Giselle Comeau and Gilles Gautreau from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency did an excellent job presenting a topic that requires a detailed knowledge of the new labelling requirements.



2007-08-21 to 23 • Transportation Logistics course

Intensive three-day course with one day on transportation, one on logistics and one on warehousing/distribution.  To bring front-line and other staff in the food processing industry up-to-date on how best to optimize transportation expenditures.  Organized by the Atlantic Institute for Logistics and Transportation.  Held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Moncton August 21 to 23.  Nine participants.  Instructors Terry Shears (logistics), Peter Vuillemot (transportation) and Peter Tye (distribution). To be held again in the spring.



2007-06-05,06 • European Labelling & Regulation Workshop

Two day intensive workshop held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Moncton.  Nineteen people attended.  The instructor was Neville Craddock from Bletchinley UK to be the instructor and he was very well received.



2007-04-23 to 25 • FSEP HACCP course

Presented at Farnell Packaging in Dartmouth for eleven participants.  Instructors from the PEI Food Technology Centre.



2007-03-22 • US Customs & Border Protection Programs

Seminar held at the Future Inns in Moncton.  Instructor Bernie Matt brought 30 people who attended up to date on CT-PAT and related programs to ensure smooth flow of goods across the US border.  Thanks to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada for setting up the event.

Presented by instructors from the PEI Food Technology Centre.  15 students.  Held at Cooke Aquaculture facility.



2007-02-09 • Value Chain Workshop

Workshop held at the Future Inns in Moncton in conjunction with the "New Directions for Our Food Industry" conference.  Speakers were Martin Gooch from the George Morris Centre, Monique Bourque from Co-Op Atlantic and Neri Vautour from the Wild  Blueberry Association of North America.  75 people attended, many of them primary processors.  Thanks to the Canadian Farm Business Management Council and NB Agriculture & Agriculture for their development of the event

2006-11-23 • "Thriving or Barely Surviving" Workshop

This product development workshop was held at the Fairway Inn in Sussex, which proved to be an excellent and central location because 78 people were able to make it to the event.  The speakers were Bruce Cowper and Kerry Wright from Mallot Creek Strategies.  The event was organized by the development associations and agency people from the area.


2006-11-14 • Ingredient Labelling Workshop

This very intensive one-day workshop was held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Moncton on November 14.  The instructor was Gary Gnirss from Legal Suites.  18 people attended.



2006-11-08 to 10 • Americas Food & Beverage Show & Conference

The association  secured and outfitted 22 booths for an Atlantic Canada pavillion at this 9th annual event held at the Miami Beach world trade and convention centre.  30 people manned the booths.   650 buyers attended the event from the southern US and Latin America, a $1.7 trillion market !   Two chefs from Halifax (Bee Choo and Louis Clavel) won the chef's conpetition.  The association also administered significant agency funding for the event and worked with an organizing committee from all four provinces.  Mr Art Drysdale from Nova Scotia did an excellent job heading the committee.


2006-11-07 • Supplying the cruise ship industry

Similar to the October 1 event but this time in Fort Lauderdale for the processors that were attending the Miami F&B show.  Included one-on-one meetings with cruise industry buyers.  30 participants.



2006-10-25 to 27 • First Acadian Peninsula Food Processing Conference

Highly successful first annual conference held at the Complexe Les Deux Rivieres in Tracadie-Sheila.  50 participants.  10 excellent speakers.  A reception, a banquet and two round tables.  Very interesting discussion and many new contacts made.  First event of the association to focus on the issues of a particular area and first event for the association to be mainly in the French language.


2006-10-01 • Marine transportation food supply workshop

Event held aboard Holland America Lines' flagship MS Amsterdam in Halifax  harbour.  47 people attended and learned about supplying food to the marine transportation industry.  Guest speakers were Hans Brinkhoff and Margaret Cullen.  The vessel supplied a most enjoyable luncheon.


2006-09-27,28 • Canadian Nutrition Labelling Seminar

Event held at The Fisherman Restaurant in Shediac.  32 people attended.  Giselle Comeau and Gilles Gautreau from the Canadian Food Inspection agency did an excellent job of presenting a very thorough overview of Canadian Nutrition Labelling requirements.

Three day course held at the Crystal Palace Hotel in Moncton.  Two instructors from the PEI Food Tech Centre.  Nine students attended from several companies.  The course received the highest rating from the students ever received for this type of course.

71 people attended this excellent seminar which brought everyone up to date on the new Canadian food labelling requirements.  Lead instructor was Sharon Noel from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.  She was supported by Ron Arsenault.
